In order to have a web site you must register
a domain name. Kampala based Griffin Services (U) Ltd can
register a wide range of domains on your behalf including
.co.ug; .com; .net; .org; & .co.uk. Please contact us
with your desired name and we will check on availability and
advise on cost.
A
domain name, ( also called an address) is the unique name
(or address) of an Internet site. Subject to availability
you can register any name you like. There are various domains
available. All addresses must end with their domain e.g .co.ug,
.gov.uk, .com, .net. This tells you in what country the name
is registered and to some extent, what type of site it is.
All addresses include the domain name of the owner of the
site. The domain name of Microsoft in the UK is msn.co.uk.
The address will start www. e.g www.msn.co.uk. www stands
for World Wide Web. Note that the www.is not part of the domain
name although it must be typed in before the domain name when
accessing it on the Internet.
The
ideal domain name will be short and easy to remember. You
do not have to use your company name. If your company name
is long it is best to try and choose a shorter alternative.
For example a company called The Uganda Industrial Fixings
Centre (U) Ltd has a long name. A better domain name
would be boltsuganda.com
You
can also use your domain name for your e-mail address. This
looks much more professional than being, for example: boltsuganda@hotmail.com.
Assuming that you have registered boltsuganda.com
you would be able to send and receive e-mail to various addresses
at your own domain name. For example: sales@ boltsuganda.com
or enquiries@bboltsuganda.com- and indeed anythingyoulike@
boltsuganda.com. There is no limit to the number of
variations that you may use and the cost remains the same.
